New section added: Video game cross-stitch projects   -   July 15, 2007

After just a couple months since my last update, I've added a new section to the site: a page about my video game cross-stitch projects. There's two so far, complete with pictures. Check them out on the new project page. I have two additional projects in the works--hopefully, I'll update this page as I make some progress.

A new game -- TrackInsanity!   -   May 20, 2007

After a long hiatus, I've gotten around to putting up my latest work-in-progress -- TrackInsanity! If you've played or are familliar with the board game called Metro, then you'll understand how to play right away. If not, the game can be learned in a few minutes, and games are fast-paced (especially against computer opponents!). This project isn't done yet, but it's in a fully-playable state. As usual, the source code is available and licensed under the GNU GPL, though it's grown into a rather ugly chunk of code that's in need of a good refactoring.

Grab the Windows binary and source from the TrackInsanity project page. The source is buildable on Windows, Linux and the Nokia N800, which was the original target for the project.

I'm going to start working on another project (a puzzle game), which I'll post up here as I make some progress. Also, in the near future, I hope to get up a page about yet another, non-programming related project I've completed -- a Dragon Quest VIII-themed cross stitch design.

Making progress...   -   March 29,2006

I'm trying to learn a few things about dynamic website creation -- I figured that since I'm already using XHTML and CSS, might as well use some PHP to make maintaining these pages easier. The site started out as a set of static pages, which meant that adding a new page meant modifying every single page on the site to update links in the navigation bar. Well, not any more.

I haven't made any updates to Dungeon of Smiley, since I think I've got it in what I consider a finished state for now.

Version 1.02 of The Dungeon of Smiley released (now with high scores!)  -   January 3, 2006

A new version of The Dungeon of Smiley is now available for download at the project page. This release includes a high score table that keeps the top ten scores for each game mode. The screenshots were also updated to show the new features.

Version 1.01 of The Dungeon of Smiley released   -   January 2, 2006

A new version of The Dungeon of Smiley is now available. The new features include boulders that can crush you as you walk around, a slightly larger light radius (so you can see the boulders coming a little sooner), and the ability to use picks on walls to tunnel to safety. See the project page for the downloads. Updated screenshots will be coming soon.

The Dungeon of Smiley   -   January 1, 2006

I've put up a page for The Dungeon of Smiley, a project that I've been working on for a while. I managed to find some time in the last couple of weeks, and got the game into a state where it's playable but not quite complete. Check out the project page for screenshots and downloads.

I've removed the Angsave placeholder pages for now. I'll need to find the source before I put them back up. I may also put up a much older project of mine; a Tetris clone that I wrote about 8 years ago. It's good for a few laughs -- the program uses Allegro just like The Dungeon of Smiley, but it was written for a much older version and targeted DOS. I don't even know if it will build under Windows at all.

Hey, only 18 months since my last update!   -   December 4, 2005

I've been paying for webhosting and the damaniel.org domain name for the last 18 months, so I figure I better do something with the page. I've started to put together a list of the games in my video game collection, figuring I can access them from anywhere. And who knows -- someone else might even care. I'm acquiring games at a scary pace these days, so I'll probably be updating the list frequently (or, I may wait another 18 months...) If I start to get enough doubles of games to matter, I'll add a list so potential traders can see what I have available.

Someday I'll get the Angsave pages finished too...

Some (very minor) updates   -   April 14, 2004

I'm still in the process of trying to get more content up. So far, the sum total of my effort has resulted in an about Damaniel.org page, plus the addition of stubs for the other pages (which means no more 404's). My next goal is to get the Angsave pages ready. I just need to grab the source out of my CVS repository and package it up.

As a side note, my site now shows up in a Google search for 'damaniel'. It's the *last* result, but that means the only way my PageRank can go is up...

Welcome!   -   April 12, 2004

Welcome to Damaniel.org! There's not really a whole lot here at the moment, but I'm working on it. The 'Programming projects' pages will have information about various programs (complete and incomplete) that I've worked on in my spare time (as soon as I get the pages up), while the pages under the 'Other projects' heading have information on non-programming things that I've worked on (the only thing there at the moment is information about my arcade cabinet).

Yes, the page design is ugly, but at least it's valid XHTML 1.0 Strict using CSS (just don't look at the stylesheet...). It even looks (mostly) right in both IE and Mozilla/FireFox (much easier said than done -- thanks, Microsoft, for your buggy CSS support...)

More content will be up in the next few days, including some updates to the arcade cabinet page. I'll also be adding the programming project pages, which includes information about Angsave (a program that backs up your Angband save games), available in both Perl/Tk and GTK 2.x.
